The brewery is in a former monastery on the Tegernsee that has been brewing beer in some form for around 1,000 years. In 1875, the brewery passed to the ducal line of the Bavarian royal family. After Duke Carl Theodor, Duke Ludwig Wilhelm and Duke Max in Bavaria, his daughter Duchess Anna now runs the fortunes of the traditional brewery.
